Group B Prompt

I developed a pretty strong opinion about McCandless and his journey, very early in the reading. Since then my opinion has not changed. I still feel that his decision was made solely for himself and not to prove a point to anyone around him. McCandless was pursuing his dream of being one with nature and escaping the regular cycle of life. He led a good fruitiful life and realized that the money and success was not what he wanted in life. My first opinion of McCandless was positive and through more reading i still do not have a negative opinion about what i chose to do.

  1. Yeah, you make a good point that he decided this solely by himself. He wasn't necessarily insular but he knew what he wanted and went after it, making connections with people along his journey.

  2. I developed a strong feeling for McCandless as well, a feeling of admiration because he was able to make such a big decision like that for himself. He completely changed his life and dove into this adventure to escape reality.

  3. I agree that his idealist view was admirable. His ideas were however not realistic. I feel that some of his actions were foolish and that in turn ended in his death.

  4. Yeah I agree with you that my positive opinion of him hasn't changed. I do not know what you mean by fruitful life though. He is still young and from what I understood had not done anything too significant.
